Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I take part payment for a sale? If a customer wishes to pay for some products up front and
then pay for the rest at a later date, then create two sales orders. The first should contain the
products they pay for up front. The second should contain the products that they pay for later.
- I am creating a sales order for something I sold in the past, but the stock isn't available.
Create the stock first! If you don't, BookStore will add it to a purchase order, and that is then
hard to rectify.
- A customer wishes to add something to a sales order Adding to a sales order is not possible. The
way to handle this is to create a second sales order for the customer at the same event.
- How do I give away free stuff? In a sales order, you can set the price that you actually sell products
for on the sales wizard page, where you add items to the "cart". Click on the price column and you can
enter a new value. Alternatively on the last page of the sales wizard, you can enter a discount which
can cancel out the cost of the sale.
- How can I get help with BookStore? There is help available if you click on the help menu. Alternatively
under the help menu there is an option to ask a question or make a suggestion. Use this to submit your
question or suggestion and we will get back to you.
- I would like to make a suggestion or request a new feature Under the help menu there is an option to
ask a question or make a suggestion. Use this to submit your question or suggestion and we will get back
to you.
- Licencing BookStore checks that you have a valid licence each time you start it. It needs to be
able to go online at least once every two weeks in order to validate your licence, which happens
automatically during startup. Once you have started BookStore whilst being online, you have two weeks in
which you can work offline before you will get a problem. For more information about your licence, use
the Help -> Register menu option. Once you have registered, you will get information about your licence
from this menu option.
- I cannot find a button anywhere that lets me save my data! BookStore saves data as soon as you
put the cursor focus out of a field. On the one hand, you need to be careful about what you change because
there is no undo function, but on the other hand you never have to remember to save your data either!
- I don't have the time to collect customers details when selling things BookStore has a special
customer called the Anonymous Customer (ID 7516), who
can be used for sales where you cannot capture actual customer details.
- I can't start BookStore because I get error CFS001! BookStore uses a database to store its
data and in certain circumstances where your computer crashes, it can leave BookStore confused.
The error looks like this:

The solution is fairly easy. Go to the installation directory of BookStore (normally
"C:\Program Files\BookStore" on a Windows computer. Then open the BookStoreDB
folder and then the data folder (or just try clicking
here). There should be two files
to delete (MysqldResource.pid and MysqldResource.port):

ONLY DELETE THOSE TWO FILES!
After deleting these files, also open the Windows Task Manager and open the Processes tab.
Sort the processes by name, by clicking on the Name column header. Then look for a process
called mysqld-nt.exe. If you can find it, end it by clicking on the "End Process" button.

Finally, restart BookStore. During startup the first thing it should do is restart the database:

- I get a LIC010 error, saying my licence is strange and I need to contact maxant!
BookStore has a few places where it keeps licence information. If you
for example, copy BookStore from one
computer to another (for example when you get a new computer), it will get confused because some
of the licencing information goes missing. This is easily repaired, just contact maxant
(http://bookstore.maxant.co.uk/contactUs.jsp)
and we can fix it for you.
- I get a REG004 error, saying I need to try again later!
To register BookStore, you need to be online. If you are not, or if the BookStore registration
server is down for maintenance, then you will get this error. Please try again later.
