Import Customers Wizard
This wizard lets you import customers from a file.
This wizard is opened from the
customers menu.
You typically import customers once, when you first set up BookStore.
Select a file containing the customers. Currently supported file formats are:
- Microsoft Outlook, Comma Separated Values (CSV)
- Generic, Comma Separated Values (CSV)
To export contacts from Microsoft Outlook, follow these steps:
1. In Microsoft Outlook, choose the "Import and Export..." menu option from the file menu.
2. In the wizard, choose "Export to a file".
3. Select "Comma Separated Values (DOS) - alternatively choose the format relevant to your contacts.
4. Choose the contacts folder.
5. Choose a file name to save the contacts to.
6. Click the "Finish" button, without mapping custom fields. The file that is created can be used below to
import the Outlook contacts into BookStore.

help.
Alternatively, you can create your own file (say from a spreadsheet you already have). This file should
have the following columns, separated by commas:
- Title
- First name
- Last name
- Business Name
- Address Line 1
- Address Line 2
- City
- State
- Postal Code
- Country
- Phone
- Mobile
- Birthday (format ddMMyyyy)
- Category (or a list of ; separated categories)
- Childrens names (separated by ;)
- Email Address
- Gender (m or f or empty)
- Notes (must not contain the separator of the file!)
- Referer
When you click on the OK button, BookStore will show you a progress bar. The import can take several minutes.
If there were any problems during the import, BookStore will ask for help:
After the import BookStore will tell you it went OK. View the customers screen
to see the effects that the import had on your customers.
If you ever need to tidy up your customers, you can use the "Remove unused customers" menu option in the
customers menu. It will remove all customers which have never been referenced in sales orders
or events.
